The Roots of the Rave

I had to blog this video. I really enjoy Chase & Status music videos. UK based, their shit's not bad. Falls under my stilo.

We all know that the U.S. was last to catch on to the rave scene. As much as we don't like to admit, our ideas are just borrowed, our trends are not unique. We follow a much more diverse, bangin culture. This ofcourse, is my opinion, but I give big ups to the UK and Europe for creating such an amazing underground culture. Ofcourse, leave it to us, the US to blow it up and overdo it. Chase & Status have a new album coming out in January, and their single 'Blind Faith' is already making boomtastic waves.

The music video to this is great. It's oldschool stilo-and brings back the idea of underground warehouse raves. Enjoy it. And a few more from Chase & Status. Big on drumnbass, expect big from them in 2011.

Happy Friday everyone! I'm at it again with the relaxed dub. It's been one of those weeks with the cold and snow and holiday season, I enjoy finner tunes such as this one.

Drift Deeper into the Sound

I finally have found a remix of this song-I'll admit I have been known to love good trance, and when it's remixed well with dubstep, damn makes your heart go twice as fast. Motorcycle on the original, the words repeated, 'embrace me, surround me, as the rush comes,' never fail to bring goosebumps.

The last two songs have been more mellowed out, but I post what I enjoy, and that isn't always hard, or grime, or up-beat. The beat has beauty in it, and I find it relaxing. High-Rankin on the remix, check out his soundcloud for more beats.

A Taste of Beauty

No matter where you are right now, it's probably at least below freezing. Not to add to your goose bumps but this song really gets em going. I was introduced to the song by the guy that got me into this whole scene. Heard it a while back, and fell in love. Never got a chance to blog so here I am, blogging one beautiful song and its' remix on a FREEZING, somewhat snowy December day.

Thirsty Thursday, YES. Got two bangin songs sent to me yesterday, curtisoy of DJ 0bsure. If you havn't heard any of Marcus' stuff, you really should. He plays some mean progressive trance, house and electro.

For anyone that's heard and like Shiny Toy Guns, you'll enjoy this. Classixx on the remix, it has this poppy, sexy, electro feel to it. Easy to get hooked on this song, your head starts bouncing at the 2:05 mark.

Skrillex Fever

I have gone somewhat MIA on this blog, my apologies! It has been a rough month. Fear not, i'm coming atcha with some wicked tunes.

If you havn't heard the name yet, you will eventually. Growing fast than the amount states banning four lokos. Infectious, his beats bring catchy yet grime sounds to an popular growing population of electro-dub/dubstep lovers. Yes, you cannot ignore the fact that the genre is on the rise. Although already mainstream, Skrillex brings some uniqueness to his tunes, and I find myself head-banging everytime. Waiting for the buildup and letting the drop move my body. His artwork for the CD cover isn't bad either.

I picked my top 3. If you find you like what you hear, he will preforming tonight in Richmond VA for yet another installment of DubNation. Definitely worth checking out if you can make it down there. As an extra bonous, Doorly will be making an apearence (hopefully longer than 10 minutes, like his last appearence in B-more).

Tattooed Bass

Straight outta the underground in the West London comes yet another talented female artist, whose vocals mixed with bassy tunes bring a very relaxed dubstep theme. On the rise, continue to look out for Louisa Bass-an up and coming young new artist. She is already in talks with some of the biggest names for collaborations so this is definitely not the last time you will hear of her. Her album is expected to drop in 2011-the song, Tattooed is very well remixed by Veto-XL. Very worth the download.

Magnetic Man, feat. Katy B is classic example of good dubstep and UK pop-dub mixing. I first heard Katy B when her UK single, On a Mission dropped a few months back on Rub-A-Dub-Dub. Adding Benga to the mix, and you get a nice slow dub remix of an already good song.



Dansette Junior, another artist up and coming released a new track recently. This one is an exclusive, and won't be forthcoming on the Dansette Junior album!It's got a nice bassy UK feel, with an "unreal" feeling to the chours

I've talked about him before, he's making his way up. Korrupt youselves everyone, you're about to get a taste of Netherlands finest. Olaf De Rooij, if you don't the name you should learn it. I met him over a year ago, and he is responsible to bringing me into the world of the Underground. Living in DC, he has been a native of Holland for years. When I first met him, I knew nothing about Dubstep, the Underground, and the meaning behind it. Since then, I have learned and grown so much and am proud to say that the reason for this blog being responsible is thanks to him. One thing I learned from him is that you have to find your own taste in this world of dubstep/dnb and stick to it. Don't follow the norm, don't bring the same beats, and always switch it up. I was fortunate enough to visit him last year in Holland and see a true taste of the world you don't see here in the states, even in Baltimore. His taste, more unique then most dubstep. And teKno, is his speciality.

I witnessed first hand the meaning of a true "free party" last year. One event he took me too, went a little something like this. The address to the party, was only obtainable by calling a number that was only opened for a short period of time, the location, a place out where the music played past the sunrise and well into the next day. Having arrived at midnight, I expected what I have seen in Baltimore, what I got was something greater than I could have ever picture. Speakers and bass taller than anything you could ever want here, more room but less people, giving you the freedom to let loose, and the music, different than most normal dub. TeKno-what I like to think as dub on cocaine, has a fast and bassy feel, in your face. You won't find it often here, but despite it being different, I urge you to really listen and open your mind. What I loved about Olaf was it didn't matter what "everyone else was listening too," if you like the beat and you have a passion for the music, go with it. That is the true meaning of being a lover of the Underground. Since beginning his journey, Korrupt has grown and evolved from spreading the love of the underground, to producing and adding to the Underground. This mix, made on his vacation in Italy with his parents is upbeat, but dark and shows the true taste of an Underground Artist. One that produces for the love of the music and not love of the fame. Not gonna lie-been on a dubremix craze last few weeks. I just love hearing familiar tunes remixed hardcore. I got a ton of music coming atcha this week. I know, I know, i've been horrible. But can you blame a girl? This weekend was Summer Massive, and for any one that missed it, you should be ashamed. Gonna hit you with a few remix's for now though.

Foo Fighters. Love em. I was a huge alternative rock fan before dubstep. Yes, I do love everything-Dubstep is a huge favorite but i've only been in the scene about 2 years now, and I build up a collection of genres over the years. When this song came out originally I was in love. I like the idea of mixing rock with dub, it'd different but workable. Starts off soft, picking up a beat, then dropping that wobble! Still brings the rock, but with wobble instead of drums.

Indie meet Dub

I love listening to music of my past, remixed into my currently music listenings. Recently found, this remix has a very relaxed dubby feel to it. Postal Service was my shit, especially DC Sleeps Alone-i'm from DC, ofcourse I love this song. Starts off very mellow with minimal, but just enough bass. Little bit of electronica and wobble, then picks up towards the end with a faster tempo. Perfect amount of remix. Club Seal on the remix-check out some of his other stuff, it's noteworthy.

Pretty sure i've put some The XX up here in the past. Kind of a Florence and the Machine feel with the vocals, the original of Infinity is fantastic! However, this "MartyParty Dubstep" remix has a nice wobblely feel, puts a little fun twist on a sexy song.

I have a thing for gorgeous vocals and dubstep mixed together--my Valentines day post was the original, You Got The Love, and this remix just makes me fall in love more. Funky beats and tunes. UK Import: Annie Mac Mashup

I fucking love Annie Mac. Who wouldn't? She's got that sick UK british accent, and the beats she brings on her shows are legendary.

I stumbled upon this mix this morning actually, and it's flipping fantastic! 2 hours of a mixture of different beats, raging from dubstep, disco, hiphop, and even some BIGGY-yep, I fucking said it, the notorious B.I.G. is thrown into this mix.

Downside to this mix, there's a lot of talking in between some of the beats, but then again, this is a radio show that Annie Mac throws together in the UK, for BBC radio, known as BBC Radio One- and ofcourse they talk, just bare through it, it's worth it. Being 2 hours long, even if you don't hear something you like in the beginning you'll hear something later on, that's the beauty of these mix's is that she throws a mix of everything in. So i'll keep tonight's post short, i've been shitty about hitting ya'll up with good summer jams!

Justin-whose responsible for the BAD-ASS photo chilling on the top of the blog page has always been finding sick music that I can use to blog for you guys and tonight's no exception. Think a mix between electro/dub/house. And who could say no with two sexy ass ladies on the cover!

Starting off slow, it kinda reminds me of a little Tiesto then mixed with Jean Elan's Lights Out-but it's got it's own twist. It drops around the 1:32 mark and if you close your eyes, maybe the kites WILL make you fly.

Newest Import: Deadhead DJ's fresh from the UK

In case you missed the memo-Click at the legendary Paradox in Baltimore took place last night! Talk about some amazing party. Although most of the Baltimore crowd made it's way to Unity in North Carolina this past weekend, masses still managed to make it out for Click-headliner being the legendary Designer Drugs.

After a long friday night-and a late start to my Saturday afternoon, I finally made my way out round 11pm with my usual rave crew-King J4MES & Borticus included! Good vibes, open air, BB-Q's, ravetastic lights, graffiti, hoopers, and even some Avatars ;)

Opening for Designer Drugs-DJ group, Deadhead DJ's straight outta the UK. Having the opportunity to meet them, we had to ask how they were enjoying America, what they thoughtof the Baltimore rave scene and such. Intriguing really, they mentioned how in the UK dubstepis way past the norm, and they're challenge is to come up with new genres as opposed to justplain dubstep/dnb. Also mentioned, upon being flown into America and put up in a nice hotel, each was give $500 for spending money. Ah, the wonderful life of being a DJ. Although it was somewhat cold, and ofcourse it snowed Saturday night, overall it was a good trip with a kick ass ride up. To get right into things, coming back I saw that one of our boys for the blog, a Mr. Korrupt, has finally come out with his YouTube Channel!

MJ Cole just posted a previously unreleased Wookie remix of a tune called Battle on his Souncloud which just happens to be a ten year old track[btw, it's a 16-bit WAV:D] . If you aren't up on MJ Cole and his contributions to electronic music history and you think you know about Dubstep, you bes get your ass movin. For our purposes, we can at least say MJ Cole is one of the founders of the 2Step garage sound that emerged first in the UK in the late 1990's and early 2000's. His breakout track Sincere is just gorgeousand there happens to be a newer nero mix that will really put you on the floor 2step is quite a sound to take in... Taking influences from styles as diverse as old-skool hardcore, breakbeat, garage, jazz, funk, house, and reggae dub among many others, 2Step is an amazing hybrid style that will force you to get up and shake your ass no matter what. Cole's new/old track is so very amazing... Floating between those breaks and jazzy piano stabs just gets me goin so well. This is quite an apt release, what with the state of the music industry nowadays... and the record sales... moving more towards the grimey dubstep sound. Check the original if you've got the time...

Long nights make for long next days...

Got lots ahead for today, but this morning I just wanna up everyone on two forces in electronic music that likely will not be stopped anytime soon. These artists come direct via Soundcloud and are offering many free goodies in the way of tunes and mixes, so get on the page, check out the ish, leave them some love if you dig. Our first artist, Nit Grit, hails from San Jose, CA and is KILLING the heavy dubstep/grime sound right now. His newest beauty, the "Prituri Se Planinata" remix takes a new adaptation of a classic Bulgarian folk song, Prituri Se Planinata, by Sonja Drakulich and Stellamara and really does a number on it. Somehow he finds a way to retain the sweetly mysterious aura the vocals can't help but let off and all the while you're waist deep in sludge. ;) I've been coming back to Danny's page every day since I heard it a week ago and I can't get enough of it!! Other great tracks included on the page are "Squits and Giggles", a Squitty Bubbler exclusive, as well as a re-edit of DJ Shadow's "Building Steam With a Grain of Salt" that might just leave you wondering if you yourself are on the surface on a vinyl record. If you dig the heavy sounds, then Nit Grit is gonna wobble your face off.

Next on the roster bees a better known DnB trio from the UK known as Dexcell. Their newest upload is also one for the books. A pretty fresh remix of Ellie Goulding's Starry Eyed in a nice rolling breaksy tradition with a hot little lo-fi organ sound and some crazy spacious vocal effects towards the end. Get out the glow sticks and turn down the lights, cuz this shit goes hard. Lots of other great free tunes available from Dexcell and a mind-blowing 3 deck mix that is so worth your time if you dig that jungle sound.

It's gettin late already... so I must be headin out. Send these artists some love on their Soundclouds and buy their LP's if you really feelin em!
