The Roots of the Rave

I had to blog this video. I really enjoy Chase & Status music videos. UK based, their shit's not bad. Falls under my stilo.

We all know that the U.S. was last to catch on to the rave scene. As much as we don't like to admit, our ideas are just borrowed, our trends are not unique. We follow a much more diverse, bangin culture. This ofcourse, is my opinion, but I give big ups to the UK and Europe for creating such an amazing underground culture. Ofcourse, leave it to us, the US to blow it up and overdo it. Chase & Status have a new album coming out in January, and their single 'Blind Faith' is already making boomtastic waves.

The music video to this is great. It's oldschool stilo-and brings back the idea of underground warehouse raves. Enjoy it. And a few more from Chase & Status. Big on drumnbass, expect big from them in 2011.

Rag Doll

Happy Friday everyone! I'm at it again with the relaxed dub. It's been one of those weeks with the cold and snow and holiday season, I enjoy finner tunes such as this one.

Artist Enigma is celebrating 4 years of Bigger than Barry and have released a number of EP tracks including remixes you'll want :) If you want the free goodies, check em out here. Gotta say outta of all of them, this tune is just my stilo. Vocals are great and beat if very relaxed.

Drift Deeper into the Sound

I finally have found a remix of this song-I'll admit I have been known to love good trance, and when it's remixed well with dubstep, damn makes your heart go twice as fast. Motorcycle on the original, the words repeated, 'embrace me, surround me, as the rush comes,' never fail to bring goosebumps.

The last two songs have been more mellowed out, but I post what I enjoy, and that isn't always hard, or grime, or up-beat. The beat has beauty in it, and I find it relaxing. High-Rankin on the remix, check out his soundcloud for more beats.

Motorcycle - As The Rush Comes (High Rankin Remix) by High Rankin

For those of you who are in DC today, you should check out UStreet Music Hall tonight. Not the biggest fan of Steeze Promo, whose hosting, but HUGE fan of Emalkay. First heard live at Fall Massive last year, I was all about, 'When I Look At You,' ofcourse this is before he got blown up. Still, when you like an artist for their music, you will continue to no matter what. Take a look at his MySpace and Facebook as well as the Event Page for details about tonight. And for more tunez, check out his YouTube. The show is $10.

When I Look At You is PURE Emalkay CLASSIC. Take a listen.

A Taste of Beauty

No matter where you are right now, it's probably at least below freezing. Not to add to your goose bumps but this song really gets em going. I was introduced to the song by the guy that got me into this whole scene. Heard it a while back, and fell in love. Never got a chance to blog so here I am, blogging one beautiful song and its' remix on a FREEZING, somewhat snowy December day.

Here is the original, featuring Soundmouse, actually I quite like the music video, very Eruotastic.

-Phaeleh-Afterglow.mp3

The Remix of Afterglow is done by Japanese artist Akira Kiteshi. More upbeat but still able to maintain the beauty.

0bscure Yourself

As I posted two banging songs that were recommended to me by DJ 0bscure, I forgot to add some of his own mixes.

Just downloaded his May mix, Here We Go-shit is fire! Upbeat, I listened to it on the way into my office, it definitely gets you moving. And there are a few favorites in there, some wicked drops, and my personal favorite, Dada Lifes' 'Kites.' Let the mix blow you away and show a good DJ some lovin <3

I Don't Smoke Da Reefer

Thirsty Thursday, YES. Got two bangin songs sent to me yesterday, curtisoy of DJ 0bsure. If you havn't heard any of Marcus' stuff, you really should. He plays some mean progressive trance, house and electro.

For anyone that's heard and like Shiny Toy Guns, you'll enjoy this. Classixx on the remix, it has this poppy, sexy, electro feel to it. Easy to get hooked on this song, your head starts bouncing at the 2:05 mark.
I know many of you HAVE to know this song-especially if you smoke da reefer. It's Deeklines' I don't smoke the reefer, the Twockers Re-Rub remix. Starts off in this almost 'sunshine happy' feel then drops a bassline that makes you want to get lower. And if you have reefer, you're gonna want it for this song.

Lounge Music

I spent my night watching It's All Gone, Pete Tong, quickly becoming a favorite of mine. It doesn't fall under dubstep. It doesn't fall under drumnbass, or even hardstyle-my best way to describe it is lounge music.

For anyone who hasn't watched It's All Gone, Pete Tong-based on DJ Frankie Wilde-you should check it out, it's definitely one worth watching. Found this tune from the soundtrack, thought it was worth a listen-even if it's from a soundtrack, the feel of the song is nice, and loungey.

Well call this one, your random beat of the day.

Where's The Drop?

So I was at a little show called Fall Massive this weekend-you may have heard of it. Ha you're a sucker if you didn't hear about it. Massive in Baltimore brought out some big names, and some amazing artists.

Tizzle's Top 5:

Had to go into NumberNin6 a bit more though-making 2 appearences this week in the DC area, one at Drumstix 2 and one at Fall Massive. Both times he absolutely killed it. And I mean murdered that bassline-NumberNin6 brings the concept of dubstep back to what I first heard when the genre Dubstep was dropped into my lap. Both composure in beats, and just enough grime, when needed-not over done, but always satisfying, leaving his fans craving more.

Had to pick a few of my favorites out, but be sure to check out his SOUNDCLOUD for all music, and his MYSPACE, for free download links.

Everyone loves a good remix of Dead Perezs' Hip Hop-this brings an old school rock feel.
DeadPrez - Hip Hop (NumberNin6's 'Pervert' Refix) by NumberNin6

Dropped both times this weekend, this song drops harder than a bowling ball to your hand.
NumberNin6 - Garbage by NumberNin6

Relaxed dub feel-this song reminds me of the term "dubstep" and how this beat mixes dubstep originality with experimental smoothness.
NumberNin6 - Sarangi by NumberNin6

Topping on the the GrimeBass Cake-A 57 min installment of fresh new dub and a few unreleased tunes from NumberNin6 and his very bassy friends.

Skrillex Fever

I have gone somewhat MIA on this blog, my apologies! It has been a rough month. Fear not, i'm coming atcha with some wicked tunes.

If you havn't heard the name yet, you will eventually. Growing fast than the amount states banning four lokos. Infectious, his beats bring catchy yet grime sounds to an popular growing population of electro-dub/dubstep lovers. Yes, you cannot ignore the fact that the genre is on the rise. Although already mainstream, Skrillex brings some uniqueness to his tunes, and I find myself head-banging everytime. Waiting for the buildup and letting the drop move my body. His artwork for the CD cover isn't bad either.

I picked my top 3. If you find you like what you hear, he will preforming tonight in Richmond VA for yet another installment of DubNation. Definitely worth checking out if you can make it down there. As an extra bonous, Doorly will be making an apearence (hopefully longer than 10 minutes, like his last appearence in B-more).

Check out Skrillex on Facebook.
Check out his Youtube.
Ofcourse hear him TWEET

Tattooed Bass

Straight outta the underground in the West London comes yet another talented female artist, whose vocals mixed with bassy tunes bring a very relaxed dubstep theme. On the rise, continue to look out for Louisa Bass-an up and coming young new artist. She is already in talks with some of the biggest names for collaborations so this is definitely not the last time you will hear of her. Her album is expected to drop in 2011-the song, Tattooed is very well remixed by Veto-XL. Very worth the download.

Daily Dose of Electro

The original isn't bad. But this remix is just killer. Been getting more into Electro-Dub and House(y) type things. Starts off with a good pickup beat. The drop gets groovy round the 2:15 mark. Love the vocals. The tune has an inspiring gospel feel, with an electric twist.

Put some of that in your morning coffee tomorrow.

Annihilate Yourself

I've been waiting for the right moment to blog about a very important influence in the underground. Being the 100th post, I thought I'd share a little bit about a DJ that has had a powerful influence in the underground scene here in teh DMV, as well as nationally. To some he goes by Chad, but to others he goes by DJ2Rip. 2Rip, was first found his musical inspiration in the 1980's has developed his own stilo of Djing and turned a now modern world of Underground into something more spiritual. He is not your normal, average DJ. If you have been lucky enough to see him preform live, then you will know what I am talking about.

For 2Rip, I have learned that it is about bringing PLUR back to the rave scene. when you step into one of his shows, you don't see just a stage, people, lights, and music. You see another world of the underground. Having been in the music scene for over a decade, 2Rip brings to the table something other DJ's have not. And that is, an art, and a uniquness to put on a wicked good show. The events, maybe you know a few, have been considered some of the best in the country. Opening for big artists such as MsterKraft, and Benny Benassi, and brining UK drumnbass group Pendulum to DC. He is also notoriously known for throwing outlawed renegade events that don't begun until way after the sun has gone down and don't end until the sun is back up and a new day has begun.

His stilo, is all his own. Mixing anything from techno, to bassline house, breaks, electro, and ofcourse that dubbadubbaDUBSTEP. He has rightfully earned his title as a respectful DJ. He is that artist that seeks out unknown spots and plans renegades you could only dream of. In fact, he makes your underground dreams a reality. The rave scene has somewhat has earned a bad name over the years. With drugs and bad vibes being the norm. However, you go to anyone of his shows, whether that be DMT, Mushroom Kindgom, Psychedelic Dreamscape, or most recently Big Dub Candy Mountain, and your eyes are open to a true underground world. Being in the mountains for a night in PA this past weekend, I saw free spirits, drum circlues, and true music/rave lovers at their best. PLUR was in full effect. 2Rip brings people together and allows you to open your mind to what music can open up inside of you. You can find youself. And you always make new friends.

The first time I met Chad, I sensed that he was the type of DJ that will always put his fans and his love for music before fame. And he has not let anyone down. And I see his fans showing true dedication to his cause. A rare example of the relationships that DJ's and their fans can have. Just another small wonder of the Underground. Why did I write so much on this DJ? He has had a positive influence on how I look at my life. I came home from Ithaca in March, lost with what I wanted to do, and over the months, I have watched and seen these shows and this dedication and found that I myself have a true passion for these types of things. I found a little bit of myself, which these days, if you don't listen to yourself, is rare.

We Speak Music

I just want to recap this weekend a little. It was pretty epic, for Burbon Street. Now, i'm a huge dubstep/dnb fan, but I have my moments where I am a huge hardstyler. Recently i've been getting into shuffling more, which if you don't know what it is, check out this video below and see how these girls do it :)

Anyway, this past weekend, Burbon played host to Showtek, a hardstyle group from Holland. Yes, that's right, this weekend, Baltimore got a little taste of Nadderrlauundds. Having visited holland and raved 2 weeks straight, I knew this was a concert not to be missed. And it blew my mind. I havn't seen that many ravers come together and dance as hard as we did Friday night. We truly brought down the house. And lost a few pounds. Showtek ended September with a bang and left excitment for the next month of incredible raves coming up.

Take a listen, it's way different-but for all you rave die-hearts, shuffle on baby.

Thug Thursday

I hate thursdays. Well, actually I don't. But considering that they tease the weekend in front of your face, you might as well just start partying on Thursdays. I know I do.

Got two good tunes for you today. Both bassy, both dubstep, both fire!
Found the first one from good ol' UFK dub. If you havn't noticed before, I have a thing for womens' vocals in a nice dirty dubstep song. Eva Simons on the vocals, kinda brings this Rhianna type voice, with some funk beats thrown in. Kinda makes you wanna be bad, right?

Take Over Control (Adam F Dubstep Remix) - Afrojack Ft. Eva Simons by Noiseuphoria

And ofcourse, there's BASSNECTAR. Yes, I am a HUGE bassnectar fan. Brings me back to my days where I first got into dub, seems so long ago, and yet, it wasn't. I was also a huge metallica fan. Two very different types of genres mixed together to seek and destroy the norm of both genres. Bass and Rock always go well together for an extra high dosage of awesomeness.

Seek & Destroy (Bassnectar Remixxx) by Bassnectar

So seek and destroy what's left of this week, and take control of your weekend. Oh yah, I went thur.

J'adore Bass

jadore Pictures, Images and Photos

I have a bass addication. If you do too, then this is most definitley the place for you. Got some new tunes for you to add to your never-ending playlist of dubbby-dubby-dubbb :)

Magnetic Man, feat. Katy B is classic example of good dubstep and UK pop-dub mixing. I first heard Katy B when her UK single, On a Mission dropped a few months back on Rub-A-Dub-Dub. Adding Benga to the mix, and you get a nice slow dub remix of an already good song.

Dansette Junior, another artist up and coming released a new track recently. This one is an exclusive, and won't be forthcoming on the Dansette Junior album! It's got a nice bassy UK feel, with an "unreal" feeling to the chours

Ready for a Good Time?

October is gonna be the month where you save your money for some rockin' events. And to kick off the month, there will be two fabulous shows in Virginia! Yes, that's right, VA. Baltimore is home to most of the shows I go too, but keep in mind, that a good planner always mixes it up.

Good Times-taking place from October 2, threw October 3, is worth making the 4 hour trip from here down south to VA beach, where T.N.T as well as other promotions such as Good Vibes are throwing together one big ass BBQ/Rave. Why such an excitment? I have several noteworthy artists, and friends, who will be preforming! Two of them, are original writers for this blog along with myself. Nick Riley, better known by his DJ name, Nick of Time, and James Durant, known by his DJ names as KING J4MES have been active in helping me write this blog since it began in February. As well, my brother from another mother, Nick Bortz, better known by his DJ name Borticus will be making his big debut to the rave scene. Some other mentionables include, Elemental, who has made numerous appearences throughout Baltimore.

Read below for full information, this is NOT something you should miss out on. Having known a lot of the kids who will be a part of this, the spirits will be good, the talent will be amazing, and not limited to just DJing. Poi, light-shows, drum circles, and a hell of a lot of PLUR going on.

Oh, did I mention it's 2 stages, over 20 DJ's and only $10. Can you say, WICKED deal?

Check out the event page for more details and take a listen to some of what's in store :)

Now Introducing...

Up until now, the blog has had a heavy influence of Dubstep and DrumnBass--however, these days, it's all about expanding your knowledge. Today's daily does features, Electronica. I've been heavy influenced by up and comming artist, Borticus, aka my brother from another mother. Introduced to the scene not too long ago, he's quickly adapted to music and soaked it up like a sponge. After experimenting, he's finally found his taste in music to lean more towards electro/electro-dub/house/etc. This doesn't mean he's still not an avid lover of that grime dubstep-but it's nice to know amongst my group of friends that there are different tastes all around us. Enjoy some of these electro inspired songs and expect more in the coming weeks.

Pinch of Grime with Your Coffee

Was surfing around from some grime dubstep to start your weekend off, and found this. Little mix of some of my favorites, everything from that SWAG to WHERE'S MY MONEY. Classic artists such as Caspa, Benga, Rusko, Skream, and Deadmau5. Don't you just love when you can fit a bunch of wicked good songs into one tiny mix, teasing you with the grime and making you want more. DJ Praiz, hailing from the UK has quite the unique sound, twisting and changing up familiar beats. DOWNLOAD THIS MIX HERE

If you like the grime, then you'll definitely like this DrumnBass mash up. Tad bit longer, at 9 minutes, it's the perfect wake up bass in your face mix. Artists include Chase and Status, High Contrast, and Sub Focus. Very upbeat, very dirty. DOWNLOAD THIS MIX HERE

Korrupt Yourselves

The TeKno Party
6am-TeKno
Major Bass
Crazy Set Up
Forever Korrupt
DJ Korrupt & Shirt
My Best Friend-Owe this all to you
I've talked about him before, he's making his way up. Korrupt youselves everyone, you're about to get a taste of Netherlands finest. Olaf De Rooij, if you don't the name you should learn it. I met him over a year ago, and he is responsible to bringing me into the world of the Underground. Living in DC, he has been a native of Holland for years. When I first met him, I knew nothing about Dubstep, the Underground, and the meaning behind it. Since then, I have learned and grown so much and am proud to say that the reason for this blog being responsible is thanks to him. One thing I learned from him is that you have to find your own taste in this world of dubstep/dnb and stick to it. Don't follow the norm, don't bring the same beats, and always switch it up. I was fortunate enough to visit him last year in Holland and see a true taste of the world you don't see here in the states, even in Baltimore. His taste, more unique then most dubstep. And teKno, is his speciality.

I witnessed first hand the meaning of a true "free party" last year. One event he took me too, went a little something like this. The address to the party, was only obtainable by calling a number that was only opened for a short period of time, the location, a place out where the music played past the sunrise and well into the next day. Having arrived at midnight, I expected what I have seen in Baltimore, what I got was something greater than I could have ever picture. Speakers and bass taller than anything you could ever want here, more room but less people, giving you the freedom to let loose, and the music, different than most normal dub. TeKno-what I like to think as dub on cocaine, has a fast and bassy feel, in your face. You won't find it often here, but despite it being different, I urge you to really listen and open your mind. What I loved about Olaf was it didn't matter what "everyone else was listening too," if you like the beat and you have a passion for the music, go with it. That is the true meaning of being a lover of the Underground. Since beginning his journey, Korrupt has grown and evolved from spreading the love of the underground, to producing and adding to the Underground. This mix, made on his vacation in Italy with his parents is upbeat, but dark and shows the true taste of an Underground Artist. One that produces for the love of the music and not love of the fame. Interested in hearing more? Check out his soundcloud and YouTube and show your support. He truly has a unique sound. Expect more from him in the future.

And if you find yourself unsure about this mix, take this meaning away from you. Ask yourself what the Underground Movement means to you. Are you a true believer? Are you a true follower. What is your style and why do you like what you listen too. Open yourself to new music, explore all the artists and types of music there are to offer. Dig deeper and fall down the rabbit hole a little more.
